Happy New Year, everyone! For my first post of 2013, here’s one of my favorite places in Andalucía – Córdoba.
But before I get started, I do have a minor change to my blog for the new year! My new URL is www.holayessica.com (I finally took out the “WordPress”). Thanks for following me in 2012, and I’m excited to see what 2013 brings!
And now on to Córdoba….
Córdoba is a small city in Andalucía, and a quick train ride away from the region’s capital, Sevilla. The biggest sight there is the Mosque-Cathedral, which is exactly what it sounds like.
Even though I knew to expect both a mosque and a cathedral, I was still pretty surprised at how they’re combined. Once you’re inside the building, it looks like a mosque. But when you turn the corner, you’re suddenly in a cathedral – it’s just stuffed right in the middle of the building!
If you’d shown me this photo a few years ago and asked me to guess where it was, I don’t think I would ever have guessed Spain. That’s one of my favorite parts about traveling around the country – it always surprises me.

Great photo!! I love Córdoba too. So, are you self-hosting then? if you don’t mind my asking….it’s something I have been cogitating too but still unsure as to which way to go. Keep up the great work with your blog, it’s one of my favorites 🙂
Hi Tobyo, I think you can use a domain name without self-hosting but you have to pay to do so, don’t think it’s much though. Sorry Jess, I should’ve really let you answer this :-S
That’s 100% right – it was cheaper and easier than self-hosting for us non-techies!

Nope! I just bought the domain off of WordPress. I keep thinking about self-hosting too, but am on the fence. Martyn’s comment is right – I just went to the ‘store’ option on the left-hand column in the dashboard and bought it that way.
heh, I didn’t even see Martyn’s comment until now! I have heard of other people doing this as well. not sure what the difference is, other than cost? I will keep cogitating. thanks!

I think this was one of the most interesting buildings I ever saw in Spain too! It’s a good way to learn about a big part of Spain’s history, for someone like me who ordinarily wouldn’t want to sit down with a history book 🙂
I agree! You can really see Spain’s history, especially in the south, because they just kept building on top of the monuments they’d conquered. Much more fun than a history book 🙂
