This photo is from a couple of years ago when I was studying abroad. It’s in Ronda, a tiny hillside town in Málaga.
The fields near them are filled with trees and olive groves. Actually, the drive up to the city is really stunning, which is something I almost never say (I loathe driving with what would be a passion…if I ever had to do it).
I might even say it were prettier than the city itself, but Ronda is really beautiful. It’s circled by rings of mountains and has that beautiful Andalucian look, with white houses and cobbled streets.
But my favorite part was actually the amazing views of the countryside. Because Ronda is high up on a hill, you can see for miles and miles. With the Spanish sun gently warming my back, I could’ve spent all day looking at the stretches of beautiful countryside.
Besos!

I’m getting my car this weekend, and I think that Ronda will be my first trip!
Good luck! My dad and I drove up last week, and he was white knuckling the wheel on those steep curves! Although I think the road from Sevilla to Ronda is probably tamer. The road from Marbella is horrific, though!
Eek! I remember it being quite nice from Sevilla to Ronda, but I may be wrong.
It is very nice. we drove it 3 years ago and loved it!!
Haha okay, so I am remembering correctly! It’s a very pretty place.
Have fun! It’s so gorgeous up there.
Oh, I love Ronda! The little sandwich shops there are to die for, and I just can’t get enough of the New Bridge, I just catch myself staring at it for ages 🙂
The bridge is amazing! I didn’t get to try any of the food though (it was a packed lunch for me!). It’s too bad, Andalucian food is great.
Looks beautiful!!
I don’t really like driving cars I’m not familiar with, but they let you see so much more than if you depended on public transport all the time. Definite toss up.
Agreed…there are good things and bad things to both! Plus, I still don’t rent cars because of the under-25 surcharge – they end up being pretty pricey here.
How could I forget you’re still a wee one! Unfortunately for me, the days of worrying about that surcharge are long gone!
Rental cars are definitely not the cheapest option, but I do love the freedom that you get when you have one. Such a conundrum.
Yeahh…I’ll definitely be renting one when I turn 25! 😀
is that like going to a bar right at midnight on your 21st birthday? 😉
Haha YES, I’m going straight to the Hertz counter at midnight on my 25th! 😀
Be still my beating heart. This picture makes me so happy, yet makes Spain seem even further away. I miss my beloved Andalucía too much.
Thanks! Andalucía has such beautiful countryside.
i spent hours sitting in the sun in Ronda looking over the mountains…and it was winter! very chilly at night though. Such a relaxing town…
Ooh I bet it gets really cold in winter! It’s very relaxing though, I remember it having a very gentle and slow vibe.
I was lucky enough to stop in Rhonda when I was in Spain a few years ago – what a beautiful place! I’d love to go back and explore the surrounding countryside.
Yes, it’s seriously gorgeous! The countryside would be so much fun to explore.
Ronda is a wonderful white town with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and a deep gorge in town that takes your breath away. Hemingway wrote that Ronda was the most romantic town in Spain.
I agree, the views are breathtaking. I didn’t know Hemingway said that about Ronda, but I can see why. Thanks for sharing that.
Love your blog, Jessica, and particularly this post on Andalucía. I’m excited to read more.
Thanks very much! 🙂
