Hello everyone, and happy Wednesday! This week for Where in Spain Wednesday, I’m taking you to one of my favorite cities in Spain – Oviedo, in Asturias.
This time last year, I spent a long weekend (along with a long bus ride) traveling to Asturias, the greenest place I’ve been in Spain. From the delicious food to the stunning scenery, I was definitely captivated by Asturias, and especially by Oviedo. It’s surrounded by miles of emerald-green hills, which trap wispy clouds of mist in the little city.
It was especially nice in the autumn, right before the real frío had set in and when all the trees slowly started shedding their crisp, golden leaves in the rain. At night, the city center filled up with a rollicking crowd of university students and young people dancing in and out of the misty golden streets.
Oviedo is decidedly on my list of places I’d love to go back to in Spain. Fingers crossed that will be happening sooner rather than later, so I’ll be keeping you updated on my (triumphant) return to Asturias.
Also, be sure to check back on my blog on Friday for a preview of a little secret project I’ve been working on around Barcelona. 🙂
Besos!
-Jess
Does your secret project have something to do with the bats you wrote about awhile ago?? Please say yes!
A part of it definitely does! 😀
I can´t wait to explore this region! But time is running short because in a few weeks it might just be too cold for my liking. For sure in spring! 🙂
Love your header by the way!

I went about this time last year and it was already pretty chilly! But it’s so beautiful it’s totally worth it.
And thanks about the header, btw. 🙂
One of my favorite Spanish cities! I went in December when the city was aglow for navidad and it stole my heart- not to mention how amazing fabada is on a cold December afternoon. Hope you return soon!

Ahh it must be stunning in December! And yeah, fabada is the best on a cold day.
I first “learned” of Oviedo through Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie 🙂 I spent a little time in the north of Spain over a decade ago but would love to return. I spent so much time in Andalusia that I’m sure the north would be so wonderfully different in comparison.
I must say I am MOST envious Spanish adventures post-college! I haven’t been back since I studied in Sevilla and am dying to return although I’m partly afraid I’ll be disappointed since it won’t be the same. It is such an incredible country.
P.S. Love your blog’s name. While I have it good with my name (Julia) when I travel to a Spanish speaking country, my roommate’s name in Spain was Jennifer so yes to our host parents she was “Yennifer” 🙂

Haha Yennifer, of course! It’s such a funny sound to hear.
And yeah, Oviedo and the other places I’ve been in northern Spain are sooo different. It you go back, I’d definitely recommend checking out another region because it’s like going to an entirely different country.
I’m so glad that you loved Oviedo! I spent a summer semester there at the Universidad de Oviedo. It’s such a charming little city. I love it so much!
