Feliz miércoles, everyone! It’s finally hit mid-week (why is this week going by so slowly??) so it’s time for Where in Spain Wednesday. This week, it’s back to Sevilla for a look at my favorite view of the city.
I snapped this from the top of the fairly new sculpture in Sevilla – Las Setas (The Mushrooms). Officially known as the Metropol Parasol, it picked up its funny nickname because of its shroom-like undulating shape. That’s what’s peeping out at the lower left-hand side of the picture.
Apart from being a weird artistic addition to the city, it’s also a great place to get views of Sevilla. Standing at the front, you can see the famous cathedral (that’s the rectangular tower in line with the tree in the center-left) plus a few other churches. And you can really see why Andalucía is famous for its white cities.
Opinions on the Setas are pretty divided, but I’m betting they’re more uniform on the expansive views you can get from the top of the sculpture. La Giralda has the most famous views, but I prefer being able to see the fancy cathedral from far away.
Besos!

Wonderful view 🙂

It is indeed a lovely place to see the city from. 😀
I didnt like too much this “artistic” creation when I visited Seville, but after see your point and your picture I think that I am going to give it a second opportunity thanks Jessica

Yes, it’s much better from above!
I was pretty against the Setas when they first went up, but seeing the views at sunset changed my mind two years ago. It’s far cheaper than the Giralda and has better views!

Yeah, the views are great! The Giralda views are nice, of course, but these are even better. I bet they’re spectacular at sunset.
Weird, no, artistic! I love how Cat says she was against it, it kinda reminds me of people in Paris who were originally against the Eiffel Tower. (Although I know it’s not the same, it’s somewhat comparable.)

Yeah, that seems so strange to me now! It’s such an iconic image of Paris that I can’t imagine it without it.
People did indeed hate the Eiffel Tower but now everyone loves it. What has caused more controversy recently in Paris are the glass pyramids in the courtyard of the Louvre by the entrance. Those only went up in the 1980s when Miterrand was president and opinions are really divided about them–some people love them and some people absolutely hate them.
As for Las Setas, it’s a bit odd to have a gigantic mushroom type sculpture but the view is amazing!!
Yeah, I’m can see how those would cause more controversy. They’re kind of odd. I think I like them…probably? Haha.
Such a beautiful view! Can´t wait to visit Sevilla!
I think you’ll enjoy it, it’s a really gorgeous little city. 🙂
I missed seeing these sculptures in Seville when I was there this summer. After I returned home to the States, I got a jewelry catalog (Brighton) that included a photo of the sculpture and how some pieces of their jewelry were influenced by the design. The jewelry was very artistic–not weird.
Is that the tower of the Plaza de Espana on the right side of the photo? I think I was right near these sculptures and didn’t even know it. 🙁

How cool! I bet jewelry inspired by this looks great.
This isn’t very near the Plaza de España. It took me a while to find it because it’s not close to any of the other major tourist sites I was visiting (and when I studied in Sevilla it wasn’t up yet).
